Bobrin's Ice Theatre was founded in February 1986. Its first performance took place in Tcheliabinsk. At the very beginning there were only 9 artists in the Theatre and they performed together with variety artists. But the dream was to become independent. This resulted in the first production - "Silent Movie, or Meditations on the Theme of Charlie Chaplin" - in a burlesque-ballet style to the libretto of Iljia Reznik (choreography - Natalia Dabbadie). The success of the "Silent Movie" was beyond all expectations. Alongside with this, the Theatre artists created a winter "aerobics on the snow" program for the Russian TV. And during two years this program was transmitted in winter for the whole Russia by three TV channels. All aerobics fans were dancing together with the USSR, European, World and Olympic champions. It was in winter 1988 - 1989 that the first tour happened. The Theatre performed in Holland, Denmark, FRG, Austria, Spain, France and Andorra. The press was full of appraisals: "New and fresh ideas! Nothing like that on ice before!", and the journalists in Paris called the Theatre "Bolshoi on Ice". It was a success that was followed by tours all over the world. Perhaps the secret of such a success lay in the fact that the artistic combination of theatre action with ice ballet gave birth to an absolutely new genre, and Bobrin's Ice Theatre was the first that followed this absolutely unknown way.
